Hello everyone! Cyn Wilson here. Have you ever felt ‘out of balance’ in the physical sense of life? Well, today I would like to introduce you to a very special and important body gland every human and animal in the world has in their body – Thyroid Glands.  Keep in mind that I am a Coach, and not a medical doctor, however, I am interested in life and science and people, so I give you my explorations.
This very gland could be what is keeping you out of balance physically. This gland is called the ‘Thyroid Gland.’ According to Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 20th edition it states regarding the Thyroid Glands:
Thyroid Gland: An endocrine gland located in the base of the neck on both sides of the lower part of the larynx and upper part of isthmus. The gland consists of microscopic vesicles, the thyroid follicles, made of cells called follicular cells. The follicles contain colloid, a mixture of protein thyroglobulin and iodine, from which thyroxine and tridothyronine are synthesized. Parafollicular cells secrete the hormone calcitonin.

Research Body Glands That Matter Most

Okay, that is really scientific there and it does not explain completely how it relates to the rest of the body. As someone whom has a thyroid condition here is the breakdown of all that ‘medical definition’ of the Thyroid Gland, I have learned and understood over the last few years now that body glands that matter most are good to research.   The Thyroid Gland is defined as,  “An endocrine gland in the body that produces proteins that keeps the body in physiological balance.” I like to imagine it like ‘Balancing Weight Scales’ weighing out perfectly our bodily hormones when the body is in perfect balance.
Now, my definition was a little easier to understand, yes? What happens if this particular gland in the body is not quite working properly? Well, now, let me tell you about it! I will only mention two of the common thyroid conditions in the medical field. One condition is known as Hyperthyroidism the other is Hypothyroidism. According to Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 20th edition, Thyroidism is: A disease caused by hyperactivity of the thyroid gland.

Hyperthyroidism

Let us look at the definitions of Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism via Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 20th edition too:
Hyperthyroidism: A disease caused by the excessive levels of thyroid hormone in the body.
Hypothyroidism: The clinical consequences of inadequate levels of thyroid hormone in the body. When thyroid deficiency is long-standing or severe, it results in diminished basal metabolism, intolerance of the cold temperatures, fatigue, mental apathy, muscle aches, dry skin and hair, a coarsening of features.
Both conditions are found by a very specific blood test. Both are treatable and both need to be treated in order to keep our literal physiological piece of our lives in balance. Hyperthyroidism according to Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 20th edition, treated by the following: surgical removal of the thyroid gland, radioactive iodine ablation of the gland, or anti-thyroid drugs.
Hypothyroidism is easily treated by a synthesized version of the T4 protein that isn’t being produced enough in the body. One could also increase their intake of iodine via salt that has it. (These I know from personal experience of condition). Now, a person with this condition could very well be eating right and exercising long enough on a regular basis—their body however, will not prove it. This has been my experience having the condition. For those having hypothyroidism, my experience is that a Gluten-Free diet is helpful in releasing unwanted weight created from condition. Even if individuals stick to a ‘gluten-free’ diet MOST of the time, someone with this condition keep up weight release benefits of such thyroid condition.
Hyperthyroidism, if not discovered soon enough, could cause a very serious condition.  According to Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary 20th edition, there is something life threatening called a Thyroid Storm. This results from untreated hyperthyroidism; it can even be brought on after certain treatments completed when the condition is discovered.
Blood Tests are available through your doctor office or through medical lab companies willing to test your blood for any of the conditions I have mentioned.
In a book called You Can Heal Your Life by Louise L. Hay, there are some wonderful phrases to note about the condition on the mental view and what can be said/believed mentally to combat thyroid issues, here they are:

  • Probably Cause/Old Thought Pattern of Thyroid conditions (hyper OR hypo): Humiliation. ‘I never get to do what I want to do. When is it going to be my turn?’
  • New Thought Pattern: ‘I move beyond old limitations and now allow myself to express freely and creatively.’
  • Probably Cause/Old Thought Pattern: Hatred for being inflicted upon. Victim. Feeling thwarted in life. Unfulfilled.
  • New Thought Pattern: ‘I am the power and authority in my life. I am free to be me.’

Sometimes we say things about ourselves that we think are ‘no big deal.’ Clearly what we say about others and ourselves does affect our body more than we realize. There is a wonderful song I enjoy called ‘Speak Life’ by Tobymac that states how we affect others and ourselves by the things we say. The song encourages us all to speak words of encouragement as our words stated do affect us in bigger ways that we realize.
