Ring, Ring!  Chirp, Chirp! Hummmmm.  Do you experience ringing in your ear called tinnitus?  Has your doctor and ENT specialist done all they could?  Are you open to other options? Hypnotherapy may be an option.

Recital in Your Ear?

Recently I went to my daughter’s music recital, and over 20 musicians performed. One of the players was playing “Scotland Bells” on the piano. I was delighted with a sound like bells ringing. Ringing bells, however, are not as delightful when a person has “tinnitus.”
“Tinnitus” is “ringing in the ears.”   People complain about annoying ringing with or without hearing aids. This annoying problem reduces the quality of life and some people become frustrated in their attempts to use all the usual methods.  When a person has ringing, they may assume that the ear is the problem. Since your mind and body are connected in so many ways, there are many ways in which ringing can be established. For instance, a person who stubs their toe may experience ringing. This isn’t about the ear, but our body is connected all over.  Bells Palsy can present a challenge with ringing and this is neurological. When you get bad news, it can present ringing or loud reverberations. If your mind gets stuck in a loopy thought, some people hear ringing. Hypnosis works in mysterious ways with the mind and body.

How Does it Work?

What affects the mind affects the body. Relax the mind, relax the body. Has Hypnotherapy been used effectively for tinnitus?  Yes, according to studies some people are getting relief. It’s more than just relaxation, so you want someone to really listen.
Hypnotherapy is a mystery to how it works in some ways to make positive experiences and outcomes in the lives of people. Researchers understand a little bit, but they would like more research.
To consider hypnosis it takes an open mind, readiness, and a curious nature to be open to explore and try new ways.  Most intelligent people are excellent subjects, because they have the ability to follow instructions and apply to themselves.
Successful hypnosis requires that you feel comfortable with a Hypnotherapist, you are willing to follow instructions, ready to change, have a process good for you, and interested to give enough time for effective change. With enough explorers working with hypnotherapists we can discover more about exactly how hypnosis works with different individuals.  Here are some studies to give you some information.

Individual Hypnosis Sessions with Tinnitus

In 1996, a study was done with 42 patients comparing group and individual treatment of chronic tinnitus using relaxation therapy with autogenic training. This study concluded that client-centered hypnotherapy genuinely helps tinnitus. In the group therapy, many of the patients reported an increase in the estimation of tinnitus loudness and annoyance. In individual therapy, the study concluded, “a positive effect throughout the whole treatment is only found in individual therapy.”   This is a good reason to come in for a private individual session. Hypnosis with Tinnitus in 28 Days

In 2007, a study was published on treatment of 393 patients using Ericksonian Hypnosis. Treatment was over the short period of 28 days. Quality of life was evaluated in 6- and 12-month follow-ups, showing that the annoyance of tinnitus can be significantly reduced while health-related quality of life is enhanced. (Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17206402)

Five Sessions, Tinnitus Sufferers Got Relief with Hypnosis

In 2011, a study was conducted with 110 patients.  After five (5) sessions, 69{8b3a2f999ba59642dfe826ddd554f6c9ff0174d7b182d4f1913e29042ced5c7c} of the respondents felt an improvement!  The conclusion was “Hypnotherapy can be regarded as an effective treatment against distressing tinnitus.”  (Reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22533067)

Can a Hypnotherapist Specialize?

Sure! People specialize in areas where they have an interest.  When I did some research, I found that Kay Atwood is an expert in Tinnitus Reduction and lives in Colorado. She has written a book and offers information on her site for how various drugs and therapies have worked with reducing the problems with tinnitus. Can I Get Rid of Tinnitus?
First, we do not give medical advice. See your medical practitioner for advice.  What we know is that everyone is different.  We cannot promise the exact results for everyone.  Many people get results and improvement continues. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so we can help you to use hypnosis and get you there, and given enough time you can do what you are ready inside to accomplish.
