Adventures for a Hero with Cat Wilson

What is a life of adventures? Consider a popular story, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain (alias Samuel L. Clemens). This book was printed in 1884. It is not an adventure story like the movies we watch now. No super heroes or superspy adventures. It’s not about a sports personality, an actor, nor a famous inventor. It’s about the adventures of a little boy.
As you open the book you see a solitary picture of a woman holding a rolling pin with three little children peeping out behind her long skirt. In front of her, you see a little boy who is looking up and facing her. As the reader, imagine from the little boy’s perspective what’s going on.
A little boy stands wearing pants that look too short for him, and from his back you see that he is looking up at her looming figure as she looks down at him, holding her rolling pin. Hmmm… is that an evil grin on her face? Does she look very welcoming? Get’s you thinking, doesn’t it? On the page following the “Contents” is a warning from the author.

Notice: “Persons attempting to find a motive in this narrative will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find a moral in it will be banished; persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot.”
– By Order of the Author, Per G.G., Chief of Ordinance.

Wow! How does that set the stage for you? Feeling adventurous? Keep going and step into the world of a little boy who has something to say. His adventure. His dreams. His way of perceiving, thinking, and doing.

Communication with Kids

How adults stand, an expression on the face, and the tone of voice affects kids. Do you think about your posture, expression, and tone when you are around youth? The picture you see at the beginning of this book sets the stage for the story. It might make you wonder what’s going to happen to Huckleberry Finn.

Adventures for a Hero

We’ve been holding a series on The Hero’s Journey. Have you stopped to think about what the hero’s journey is going to be for the children around you? The children you are helping to influence. For they, too, are on the beginning of a hero’s journey.
In the Hero’s Journey, the person searching will come across a mentor or guide who will assist them and help their lives to move forward. How’s your mentoring and guide’s attitude doing towards your children these days? That can make a difference.
